ATK - Alliant Techsystems Inc. $82.33 (+6.37)
Alliant just recently split in November of 2000, but with its recent surge, we are right back into split range. The company reports earnings on 04/25/01, but needs to authorize more shares to enact another split. Therefore, we will keep an eye out for any BoD meetings on the horizon for ATK.
IGT - International Game Technology $51.50 (+1.43)
This maker of one-arm bandits (slot machines) has been on a tear this year. After splitting 2:1 four times in four years between 1990-1994, IGT took a little breather. However, with the recent build-out of Las Vegas and other gambling meccas, IGT's products are in high demand. Historically, the company has split its shares around the $55-$60 level, so we another split in the cards soon for IGT. The company has enough authorized shares for a 2:1 split and the next likely trigger event for this would be its earnings announcement on 4/19.
MSCC - Microsemi Corporation $50.00 (-2.13)
Microsemi has not split its shares since 1985. To that end, we think it is about time that shareholders are rewarded with a 2:1 split, especially given the fact that MSCC is now trading over $50. The company will need its Board to authorize more shares, but this is commonly done. We will keep our eye out for any BoD meetings for MSCC but in the mean time the company reports earnings on 4/24/01, which may be a good time to announce a split pending more authorized shares.
PPDI - Pharmaceutical Product $54.88 (+5.75)
PPDI is a bit of a wild card to split since it has never previously split its shares. However, with the shares trading over $50, it is within split range for the pharmaceutical industry. It has 25 million shares outstanding and 95 million authorized, so a 2:1 is a definite possibility. PPDI reports earnings on 5/2/01.
WFT - Weatherford International, Inc. $53.06 (-0.26)
Weatherford gapped higher in April of 2000 and has never looked back. The company last split its shares 3:2 back in April of 2000. It is now knocking at the door of split- levels. We are expecting an announcement of a 2:1 to come out of its next earnings release date of 5/1/01.
